Missouri Back-to-School Tax Holiday: Not All Cities Participate

August 2, 2013

The back-to-school sales tax free holiday is underway allowing families with school-aged children to make purchases for school-related items without having to pay sales taxes.  However, not all cities in Missouri are participating in the program.

The Missouri Department of Revenue has an online list you can review to determine which cities are “in” and which have opted out.  A total of 163 cities have opted out of the state sales tax relief program including Branson, Claycomo, Columbia, North Kansas City, Platte Woods, Riverside, Sedalia, Smithville, and Springfield.
